Illustrating Bath with
Natalya Vukovic
A few years ago, illustrator and photographer, Natalya packed up her life into the back of a
seven-seater and moved from her home country of Malta to work across Europe and now
she captures her travels between cities through a pen and a camera...
I grew up in a rather old-world home filled with pianos and art, surrounded by musicians
and painters — so creativity was simply part of daily life. As a result, I never really thought of
myself as creative growing up. Much of the art I saw around me was classical or impressionist,
whereas the style I would eventually develop leaned far more toward whimsical illustration.
My love for visual art began in childhood, when I wanted to view life
through rose-tinted lenses. As a teenager, I was convinced my path
would be fashion design. I sketched fashion illustrations everywhere
I went and eventually enrolled in fashion school in Paris. While the
world of fashion is beautiful and inspiring, it never felt entirely me.
So I shifted direction, ilustrating for my own enjoyment but exploring
photography alongside it.
My journey as a freelance photographer began six years ago whilst I
was living in Malta. I was drawn to imagery that felt atmospheric and
lived-in. And that approach has stayed with me ever since.

Now twenty six, I have spent time living in Paris and Andorra
too and found joy in drawing corners of cafes and hotels. I enjoy
working with just a few lines and minimal detail, leaving space
for interpretation. It is all a part of the storytelling.
