Facts I think you should know
York has gone by many names in the past, reflecting its history. Founded
as Eboracum (Romans) and then renamed Jorvik (Vikings), there are still
nods to the previous names in the city.
It is one of the most haunted cities in the world.
There’s a pub for every day of the year. Really!
Guy Fawkes was born here in 1570 and the Guy Fawkes Inn is a great pub.
Known as the UK’s chocolate city, York is the home of Terry’s Chocolate
Orange, Rowntree’s and Kit Kat. For the sweet toothed, there’s plenty of
chocolate experiences to indulge in.

Some practical and fun tips
York has a long race season which is a great day out for many people. If you
love to dress up and have fun, this is a great chance to pull out the pieces
from your wardrobe. The summer music events are my favourite and this
year Becky Hill is performing on the 27th June and Tom Grennan on 24th
and 25th July.
The theatre is always a great option - York Theatre Royal & The Grand
Opera House make for wonderful evenings out.
York is a small city so almost everything is in walking distance which makes
it a very convenient city to explore. Wear comfortable shoes!
If you’re a train lover, make sure to bookmark the National Rail Museum it’s free and also great for the little ones.
