A city rich in history and beautiful no matter the season, let York local Katie guide
you on the places you should be seeing, not skipping...
Exploring iconic places in York, discovering hidden gems and seeking out new openings are all part of Katie’s daily life. She says that there are many reasons
to love York and, if we weren’t already convinced by her love for her home city through her Instagram, we certainly were after she booked a staycation with
us. A staycation in your own city? We’re onboard with that. It is impossible to be bored in York as there is always something going on. And, if you have the
time, there are many beautiful houses and estates within driving distance or plenty of options to take day trips to the coast too. Ready to explore?
What I would do if I was visiting York

York Minster - A must on everyone’s itinerary and it is particularly striking during golden hour.
Admire the magnificent architecture and then head to the top for panoramic city views!
Walk the city walls - It is a beautiful walk especially between Bootham Bar and Monk Bar and
then between Micklegate Bar and the river. It is a great way to see the city.
River cruises - These are great fun when the weather is nice. I personally really enjoy the self
hire boats which can seat up to 6 and, bonus point, they allow dogs too.
Cliûord’s Tower - Another spot I would recommend for views of the city. Whilst you’re here,
visit the Art Gallery and discover its changing exhibitions too.

Ghost bus tour - Take a tour around the city but not as you know it! York’s spooky
history is rather well known and this evening tour is a fun way to learn more about it.
Museum Gardens, Deans Park & Rowntree Park - The walk from the city centre over
Millennium Bridge is one of my favourites and the parks are great for little ones.
Bishopthorpe Rd - Walk along and stop by the coûee shops, delis & independent shops.
The Shambles & Shambles Market - continue your shopping quest and set foot on the
famous medieval street which is believed to have inspired Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley.
